Eroica and Strauss Horn Concerto

A portfolio of music, once birthed at the hands of two of the most distinguished composers in musical history. Stepping onstage for their performance in May will be the orchestral talents of the 'Gustav Mahler Society of Colombo': a musical collective of brilliance and sheer passion, paying homage to works which have marked themselves in the pages of time.

Why You Should Go

Harking back to the 18th and 19th century, when certain notable compositions were penned on manuscripts, the concert rehashes the style and finesse of Ludvig Van Beethovan and Richard Strauss. For this edition, the spotlight moves onto the horn player, Amanda Kleinbart, who will be performing under the direction of Guest Conductor, Vilmantas Kaliunas.

A composition of 4 movements, which marked the start of Beethoven's creative middle period, slips in; the 'Symphony No. 3 in Eb Major and Op. 55' commonly known as 'Sinfonia Eroica, Heroic Symphony'. Performing with the finesse of budding musicians, the orchestra re-visits the beauty of the 'Coriolan Overture, Op. 62'; a musical expression of a Roman tale of war. The Eve's second highlight, the 'Horn Concerto in E-flat Major, Op. 11' is a 19th century classic, performed frequently on varied stages and now brought to the hall of the 'Elphinstone Theatre'.
