Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramadan)

One of the practices noted in the Five Pillars of Faith practised by the Islamic believers, this is a month-long event that takes prominence in the Islamic calendars.  During this time period that is marked as the 9th month of the Islamic Calendar, those who practice the Islamic faith will fast from dawn to dusk relating their hunger to the less privileged and acknowledging their blessings by doing so.  At sunset, the household will bustle with activity as they prepare to break fast with a hearty meal.

This month-long fasting period (Ramadan) will conclude with the Eid-ul-Fitr Festival.  On this day, clad in their best attires the believers will visit the mosque at dawn to commence this celebration.  Later they will meet in their homes with their families and loved ones to partake in a hearty feast.  This is an event that all Sri Lankans, the believers and non-believers alike, look forward to with excitement as it is part of the Muslim tradition to share the festival with their neighbours!
